In 1998-2007, the main threat still endangering the security of Armenia and the Armenian people was the policy pursued by Azerbaijan.

Robert Kocharyan assumed the office of the President of the Republic of Armenia when the country was under quite difficult economic conditions. However, targeted approaches and consistent work of the President allowed for transforming the country into a state with the fastest-growing economy in the region and, in some aspects, in the world.
