Today, the official representative of the "Armenia" alliance, Aram Vardevanyan, submitted a statement to the Central Electoral Commission regarding my decision to renounce my parliamentary mandate.
It so happened that, in the past, I was a member of parliament both in Artsakh and in Armenia. However, by nature, I have always been a person of the executive branch. I am convinced that at this stage, it is right to give my place to members of my team, each of whom, I am sure, will become a worthy parliamentarian.
With this step, I also express agreement with my comrades who conveyed to me the opinion that, after having served as President of Artsakh and President of Armenia, I should not be tempted by a parliamentary mandate. After all, people voted for me as the alliance’s candidate for Prime Minister.
At the same time, I find it important to stress that my refusal to enter parliament does not mean I am stepping away from the struggle. The parliamentary faction represents the alliance’s presence in the National Assembly, and I will continue to be the leader of the alliance and work daily and consistently toward our future victories.
I am confident that everything will turn out well.
